About the photographer

Gijs van Ouwerkerk (1976) is a press photographer located in Enschede, a town in the east of The Netherlands close to the border with Germany. His skills and assignments show such diversity (news, portraits, events, sports, architecture and technology) that he has also shown to be a great choice for corporate and wedding photography. His passion for this job is fueled by the pleasant interaction with people and the challenge of making something special out of every assignment. Gijs' style is characterized by his creative play with geometrical shapes, perspective and light. In people photography he also looks for expression and interaction to make his photos more powerful.

In 2009 Gijs obtained a Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Twente. This technical background gives him an edge when photographing subjects related to science and technology. He also satisfies this special interest by writing articles about high tech scientific equipment.
